NEWSPAPER// Design Print Day 3 PM: Development Part 2

In the second half of this day we began to develop the Ubergine idea much further, preparing it for the prototype development tomorrow. We also carried out some work on the nnn.news.paper, although the idea is falling behind in terms of development. I believe that the nnn is lacking in an identity, although the concept is strong, as a brand it is not. As a result it doesn't really work as well, although we thought that the concept of an offline internet could be transferred into a section of the Ubergine.

The main aim of the afternoon was to build a pre-prototype copy of the publication. We took one of the ideas that we discussed before and turned it into a basic mock-up of the publication, adding content and ideas from the previous two days as well.
The first task we undertook, therefore, was selecting individual ideas we liked by attaching sticky notes to them, we had a great set up on the wall to explore our ideas and critique them as we did:

With these selected we planed what we liked best out of or chosen designs, noted these down and sketched up a simple mock-ups. From this we learnt that:
- We prefer having a massive title covering the entire space above the fold.
- We like the idea of having contents displayed on the front.*
- Having a 'seal of quality' or a sash wrapping the publication tight.
- The use of an abbreviated 'U'.
- We also agreed that we needed to carry out more development on the logo.
*however this turned out to be pointless!

With this plan of action in place we drew out the front cover for both the Ubergine and the nnn papers. We drew out one each and came up with this for the nnn.news.paper. This really highlighted the defeat of this paper. The reality of this concept is that it is too confusing and long-winded, the idea is strong but as an identity it is weak.
The Ubergine on the other hand is a strong identity, outlining the random humour of satire. This is the mock up we created, it exibitis a stronger headline and a more eye-catching layout. This pre-prototype rounds up many of the ideas that have been the strongest over the last few days.
