TYPEFACE// Glyphs and Numbers

As with developing the uppercase set the glyphs and numbers I will be adding started off as these freehand marks on a page. What I want to find by doing this is a dynamic shape for each character to be based off of which is both legible and fits the style of the overall set. To do this I repeat each mark over and over again to find a suitable match.

Having done this I scan in the best options and use illustrator to develop a character based on the way each shape is drawn by hand...

Then each characters shape is sketched out with the pen tool to get the right line widths whilst retaining the characters personality.

The next stage is to resize everything to make sure the characters work as a set instead of just as individually cut characters. Here I have also added some texture to the edge off the shapes to draw it back to its graphic pen style of the overall set.

The final stage for this number is to all more deatil to the edges of the characters to give each one more hand drawn features, this will be important when the typeface is used in context.

I have also completed the same process on the glyphs, a small set with some common characters...
